The GM-EMD GP-30 No. 6944 was originally built for the B&O Railroad in 1962. Its builder number was No. 27661 and its EMD order number was No. 7631. The locomotives in this class were the only class of locomotives delivered in the sunburst paint scheme.  In July of 1982, the No. 6944 was rebuilt into a GP-30m by the Cumberland, MD locomotive shops. It was later renumbered as CSXT No. 4253. On January 22, 1996 the No. 6944 retired and was donated to the B&O Railroad Museum. It was delivered to the Museum on February 13, 1996. The original number and paint scheme was reapplied in June 1996.
