FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Provided below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about THE POLAR EXPRESS™. If your question is not listed below or you require a more detailed answer, please don't hesitate to contact EBlinzley@borail.org.

Q. I have a question about the tickets I purchased.

A. Please call Ticketweb directly at 1-866-468-7630

Q. What if all the show times to THE POLAR EXPRESS™ are SOLD OUT?

A. We always recommend purchasing tickets as early as possible, given that they are limited and sold on a first come first serve basis. Due to their limited nature, tickets do tend to sell out. If your preferred ticket option happens to be sold out, make sure to confirm whether alternative options that may work for you are still available.

Q. I have THE POLAR EXPRESS™ tickets. What do I do now?

A. Please plan to arrive 45 minutes prior to the showtime displayed on your ticket. You’ll be asked to present your ticket upon arrival to the B&O Railroad Museum and once again on the train boarding platform. From there on out, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the magic of The Polar Express!

Q. Where do I park? Is there Handicap Parking?

A. The B&O Railroad Museum is pleased to offer a free, secure parking area for our guests. Please enter the lot located at 1100 James St., Baltimore, MD. In the event that this lot is full, you will be redirected to our main parking lot located at 901 W. Pratt St. Please refrain from dropping off members of your party — it is best to park and enter the museum with together with your entire group. The B&O Railroad Museum is ADA compliant and has ample handicap parking spaces available.
More information on directions and parking.

Q. I'm coming to THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride 2019 with a group. How can I make sure we'll all be seated together?

A. If you wish for your entire party to be seated together, just gather your group on the platform prior to boarding and make sure to all board at the same time. To avoid any snags, each individual member of your party should have their ticket handy on the boarding platform. While all seats are assigned and we do our best, there is no guarantee that your party will be seated together.

Q. What should I do if I arrive late, miss my showtime, and/or miss my train ride?
A. Unfortunately, due to the fact that show times tend to sell out completely, staff will not be able to guarantee you an alternate train ride should you arrive late and miss yours. Please make sure to arrive 45 minutes prior to the showtime displayed on your ticket.

Q. I am a B&O Member. Can I visit the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore during THE POLAR EXPRESS™ event?

A. For set-up and during the event itself, the B&O Railroad Museum is closed to the public on the following dates: November 12-17, 23-24, 28-30, and December 1. All exhibits will be closed and your B&O Membership will not allow you free entry on these dates. But don’t worry — if you can’t make it to The Polar Express this year, stop by throughout the month of December for Magical Holiday Express!

Q. This is our first POLAR EXPRESS™ adventure. What should we expect?

A. This magical holiday experience brings to life beloved characters and scenes from Chris Van Allsburg’s original book. On-board The Polar Express, you’ll enjoy hot chocolate and cookies as you listen to The Polar Express story, and receive from Santa himself the first gift of Christmas — a silver sleigh bell! When you finally arrive at The North Pole, you’ll be met with immersive festivities including model train layouts and joyful activities for the whole family.

Q. Why should children dress in their pajamas?

A. In the story, children are awakened from their beds and invited, still in their pajamas, on a ride to The North Pole aboard The Polar Express. To capture the magic of this timeless tale and help bring the story to life, we encourage parents and children to dress in their pajamas too. However, the Baltimore weather can be notoriously unpredictable, so be sure to bring appropriate cold-weather attire as well!

Q. If I haven’t read the book or seen the movie will I still have a good time?

A. Of course! The characters themselves will read the book aloud as you travel aboard The Polar Express, but whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to this classic Christmas tale, the magic of The Polar Express is sure to make kids of all ages BELIEVE!

Q. Where can I buy a copy of the movie or story book in advance?

A. Beginning November 1, copies of both the book and movie will be available to order in our online store or by phone at 410-752-2462 x 213. If you’re looking for a precious Christmas keepsake to pass on for years to come, copies of the book which have been specially-autographed by Santa will be available on-site during the event, along with an assortment of other THE POLAR EXPRESS™ merchandise.

Q. How long is the train ride?

A. The entire Polar Express experience lasts about 2.5 hours, including the train ride to your final destination: The North Pole! The theatrical production is performed in three stages: in the building where you arrive, on the train ride, and at The North Pole!

Q. Will I get to meet the conductor of the train?

 A. Of course! The conductor’s call of “all aboard!” signals that it is time to board the train, where he will personally punch each of your tickets —just like in the book and movie! But he won’t be alone; the train car will be filled with many of the most beloved characters from THE POLAR EXPRESS™

Q. Will my child get to meet Santa personally?

A. Santa makes a point to greet every child individually, and takes great pleasure in delivering to each the guest the first gift of Christmas: a silver sleigh bell that will always remind us to BELIEVE!

Q. Will there be other things to do at the train station?

A. Yes! When you arrive, you’ll be immediately immersed in the wintery world of THE POLAR EXPRESS™. When your train finally arrives at The North Pole, you’ll be met with elaborate model train displays and festive activities for the whole family to enjoy!

Q. I have more questions, who do I call?

A. Call the B&O Railroad Museum at 410-752-2490.
