April 2015: We present to you this month's episode focusing on Lincoln's Funeral Train. After the death of Abraham Lincoln on April 15, 1865, arrangements were made to return the body of the fallen president to his hometown in Springfield, IL. The journey would traverse 1,600 miles and allow the American people to say good bye to their martyred president. The first stop on this momentous journey was Baltimore, MD.

Visit the B&O Railroad Museum and see The War Came By Train: 1865, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.

  • See reproductions of Lincoln's Great Coat worn on the night of his assassination and an authentic Mourning Badge from the 1865 funeral train, as part of the fifth and final year of The War Came By Train exhibit, guest curated by Daniel Carroll Toomey.
