The C&O No.X-576 was built by the American Car & Foundry Company in
1923 to work as revenue car No. 84563. The No.84563 was built as a 40 ton boxcar with double sheathed wooden doors and was classified by C&O as B4-5. In 1936, the doors on the cars were replaced with Youngstown steel doors. In December 1943, No.84563 was converted into a box camp car for work train service and was renumbered as the C&O No.X-576. The No.X-576 officially retired from work train service in May 1982.
