Thomas the Tank Engine returns to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore! Take a 25 minute train ride behind Thomas the Tank Engine, meet Sir Topham Hatt, and enjoy a day full of live entertainment, activities, and family fun! For event details, click here. Please note that everyone including B&O members will need to purchase a Day Out With Thomas ticket for admittance into the museum during this six day event. Coupons, vouchers, discounts, consignment tickets, complimentary passes, membership cards, etc. are not accepted during Day Out With Thomas.

Train Ride to Mount Clare Museum House

With paid admission to the B&O Railroad Museum, you may purchase a train ride ticket to visit Mount Clare Museum House. Learn the story that connects these two great sites. Tickets for this trip are $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for children, and free for B&O members. Please note that Mount Clare Museum House  has limited handicap accessibility and restroom facilities. Please note that rides are not guaranteed with your visit and that the Museum reserves the right to cancel or change train rides in the event of inclement weather, equipment malfunction, or special event days. 
  
National Train Day at the B&O

Celebrate National Train Day at the birthplace of American railroading! Visitor enjoy programming highlighting the B&O Railroad's contributions to railroading and guided tours of its one-of-a-kind collection, including equipment rarely open for public like the #908 Office Car, the MARC #1 observation car, and the cab of the diesel locomotive PM #11 SW-1 switcher. Visitors who present an Amtrak ticket stub on this day will receive free admission.
 
Toddler Time

Toddler Time is held at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month through October. Children listen to a classic railroad story, create a craft, enjoy playtime at Choo Choo Blueville, and take a kiddie train ride through Choo Choo Blueville – all included with paid admission. Recommended for ages 2-5. Please note that ride is not guaranteed with your visit and that the Museum reserves the right to change or cancel ride in the event of inclement weather or equipment malfunction. Children programs begin promptly on-time.
 
The War Came By Train Lecture Series: The Philadelphia, Wilmington, & Baltimore Railroad Company

The Philadelphia, Wilmington, & Baltimore Railroad Company (PW&B) was established in 1838. By the mid-1850's it was one of the most successful and innovative lines on the Atlantic seaboard. In 1861, it became a critical link between the nation's Capital and the North. Howard Smith will tell us about the Union Army regiments, Navy vessels, Marine detachments and the U.S. Colored Troops that defended this vital line from attacks from both Southern sympathizers and Rebel calvary during the American Civil War.
Howard Smith is a graduate of Morgan State University with a degree in Community Mental Health. In 2006 he retired from the Maryland Department of Corrections with over thirty years service. His longlife love of trains lead to his writing Up the Line: The Union Army in Southeastern Baltimore County & Southern Harford County, Maryland 1861-1865 published in 2012

Blue Star Museums

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,500 museums across America. The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Ellicott City Station, Mount Clare Museum House are proud to partner with Blue Star Museums and offer active military personnel and up to five family members free admission to the museum from Tuesday, May 29 through Sunday, September 1, 2013. The Geneva Convention common access card (CAC) a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card are required to receive free admittance.
 
Civil War 150th Anniversary
The War Came By Train

The American Civil War was the first major conflict where railroads played a prominent role and the B&O was the major line that straddled a divided country. Between April 19, 1861 (The Baltimore Riot of 1861) and April 21, 1865 (Lincoln’s funeral train leaving Baltimore for Illinois), the B&O stood witness and participant in the greatest conflict the United States has ever faced and changed the course of American history. The War Came By Train serves as the B&O Railroad Museum’s primary attraction for the five year commemoration of the War’s sesquicentennial. The National Landmark Roundhouse will exhibit the largest assemblage of Civil War railroad equipment in the World featuring locomotives and rail cars that served during the war, significant military and personal artifacts that will change annually to portray each year of the war (some artifacts have never before been on public display), and a narrated, round trip train ride to the original site of Camp Carroll, the largest Union encampment in Baltimore. New exhibits added for 2013 include the 150th anniversary of West Virginia's Statehood and the involvement of the B&O Railroad in its creation, design, and use of armored railroad cars, the Confederate raid against the B&O Railroad in Western Maryland known as the Jones-Imboden Raid and one of the war's largest movements of troops to the battlefront via railroad from Virginia to the Battle of Chattanooga. B&O Railroad executives worked directly with the Lincoln Administration in organizing and managing this rail movement never before attempted in such a short period of time. Significant artifacts and hand-made models, all on loan from private collections, are included in this year's edition of the exhibit and help bring human interest stories to life. 
B&O Members receive FREE admission to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore!
During the months of April and May 2013, B&O members receive free admission to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore with the presentation of a valid B&O membership card and photo identification. Please note that Family and Family & Friends memberships will allow free admittance for 2 adults and 2 children.
