School of the Soldier
Saturday, May 19
12 Noon & 2:00 p.m.
In 1862 Ellicott Mills was a hotbed of wartime activity with soldiers camped on the heights surrounding the town and its own provost marshal's office to recruit new soldiers for the Union cause. Children ages 8 and older will love being enlisted into Father Abraham's Army. They will receive handwritten enlistment papers and a muster bounty! Our veteran Civil War reenactor will teach them the basic drills a raw recruit would learn, with a hands-on explanation of the equipment an infantryman would carry, followed by a demonstration of the loading and firing of Civil War era rifled muskets. No reservations required.
