Pick up a reading journal at the B & O Railroad Museum or the Ellicott City Station, browse the children's railroad books and begin your journey! Read 10 railroad-related books, complete your journal and return it to either Museum by August 26, 2013 for your free book and a chance to win an engineer's outfit!
Civil War 150th Anniversary

Ellicott City Station, America’s oldest railroad station, will host a satellite exhibit of The War Came by Train that will present living history demonstrations and exhibits highlighting the effect of the railroad during the Civil War on small town life, residents and troops that came through.
Maryland to the Frontier, an exhibition of Maryland Longrifles

Presented by the Kentucky Rifle Foundation this special limited engagement exhibit will feature more than 20 longrifles made in Maryland from private collections; most never before on public exhibition. Considered one of America's highest forms of folk art, these beautifully crafted rifles were a part of daily life on the frontier from the Revolution through the mid-19th century. Other elements of the exhibit will feature American colonial conflicts and the early development of the rifle, colonial roads, the development of the National Road and other artifacts associated with early migrants into the wilderness. Sponsored by The Maryland Arms Collectors Association, The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Maryland, The Potomac Arms Collectors Association, The Taylor Foundation, The Columbia Foundation of Howard County, and Maryland Scenic By-Ways.
Civil War Reenactment by the 138th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Co. B

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, join us and watch a Civil War reenactment by The 138th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Co. B, who will demonstrate the life and duties of Union soldiers during the war - all included with paid admission. B&O Members are free!
Civil War Lecture & Book Signing
Speaker: Daniel Carroll Toomey

Award winning Civil War historian and author, Daniel Carroll Toomey, will provide a lecture on the subject "Railroads During the Gettysburg Campaign." This lecture represents an important preamble to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2-4, 2013. Toomey will also be signing of his recently released book, The War Came By Train, The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in the Civil War. Toomey has authored more than a dozen books on the Civil War in and around Maryland. He has won numerous awards for his works and lectures and is the Guest Curator for the B&O Railroad Museum's landmark exhibition, The War Came By Train.
Guided Tour of the HO Model Layout

Join us for a guided tour of the Station's HO scale model train layout in the Freight House. this layout has been updated to show places of interest and locations of Union Army camps during the American Civil War. During this tour, a guide will point out these locations and talk about the importance of keeping the railroad operating throughout the Civil War.

The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Ellicott City Station, Mount Clare Museum House are proud to partner with Blue Star Museums and offer active military personnel and up to five family members free admission to the museum from Tuesday, May 29 through Sunday, September 1, 2013. The Geneva Convention common access card (CAC) a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card are required to receive free admittance.
