Train Ride to Mount Clare Museum House
Saturdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29 at 11:00 a.m.
Sundays, June 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30 at 12:30 p.m.
With paid admission to the B&O Railroad Museum, you may purchase a train ride ticket to visit Mount Clare Museum House. Learn the story that connects these two great sites. Tickets for this trip are $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for children, and free for B&O members. Please note that Mount Clare Museum House has limited handicap accessibility and restroom facilities. Please note that rides are not guaranteed with your visit and that the Museum reserves the right to cancel or change train rides in the event of inclement weather, equipment malfunction, or special event days.

Toddler Time

Toddler Time is held at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month through October. Children listen to a classic railroad story, create a craft, enjoy playtime at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone, and take a kiddie train ride through Choo Choo Blueville – all included with paid admission. Recommended for ages 2-5. Please note that ride is not guaranteed with your visit and that the Museum reserves the right to cancel or change train rides in the event of inclement weather or equipment malfunction. Children programs start promptly on-time.
 
The War Came By Train Lecture Series, "Train Robbers of the Upper-Potomac"

Join Steve French for a Civil War lecture about trains that were robbed by Confederate cavalry and the damage they did to the railroads. Mr. French is a history teacher at Martinsburg South Middle School and a member of many historical organizations including the Harpers Ferry Civil War Roundtable and the Stuart-Mosby Historical Sociey. He has written over seventy Civil War related articles and book reviews and is a regular contributor to The Washington Times. Mr. French is also the author of the critically acclaimed Imboden's Brigade during the Gettysburg Campaign, which received both the 2008 Bachelder-Codding Award and the 2009 Round Table of Gettysburg Book Award. Mr. French's latest book is entitled "Rebel Chronicles: Raiders, Scouts, and Train Robbers of the Upper-Potomac."
    
Guided Tour of The War Came By Train

Join a senior docent for a guided tour of the landmark exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, The War Came By Train. Learn about the role of the B&O Railroad during the War, see the largest collection of Civil War locomotives and rolling stock in the world, and listen to stories about actual people who worked for the railroad during this critical time in American history.
All Aboard Summer Reading Program, “I’ve Been Readin’ on the Railroad”
June 17 - August 26
A magical experience that takes children on a trip and teach then new things about people and places! Children who participate in “I've Been Readin' on the Railroad” Summer Reading Program at the B & O Railroad Museum and Ellicott City Station earn a free book and a chance to win an engineer's outfit.  It's easy and the trip down the tracks are fun and educational.  Let the magic of reading and the railroad take you and your child on a special journey. Pick up a reading journal at the B & O Railroad Museum or the Ellicott City Station, browse the children's railroad books and begin your journey!  Read 10 railroad-related books, complete your journal, and return it to either Museum by August 26, 2013 for your free book and a chance to win an engineer's outfit! Antique Car Show at the B&O

The B&O Railroad Museum hosts the Chesapeake Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America. This event offers the perfect opportunity for visitors to   see rare, classic, and vintage automobiles and experience the nostalgia of the open road.
 
Guarding the Railroad

Learn the importance of the B&O Railroad during the early days of the Civil War. See pictures of the Thomas Viaduct that was the only link by rail to Washington, D.C. This program, designed for children ages 6-12, allows them to try on the uniform and equipment that a soldier would have used on a day to day basis. They also may touch and see personal equipment, leather gear, haversack, and canteens.
 
Civil War 150th Anniversary
The War Came By Train

The American Civil War was the first major conflict where railroads played a prominent role and the B&O was the major line that straddled a divided country. Between April 19, 1861 (The Baltimore Riot of 1861) and April 21, 1865 (Lincoln’s funeral train leaving Baltimore for Illinois), the B&O stood witness and participant in the greatest conflict the United States has ever faced and changed the course of American history. The War Came By Train serves as the B&O Railroad Museum’s primary attraction for the five year commemoration of the War’s sesquicentennial. The National Landmark Roundhouse will exhibit the largest assemblage of Civil War railroad equipment in the World featuring locomotives and rail cars that served during the war, significant military and personal artifacts that will change annually to portray each year of the war (some artifacts have never before been on public display), and a narrated, round trip train ride to the original site of Camp Carroll, the largest Union encampment in Baltimore. New exhibits added for 2013 include the 150th anniversary of West Virginia's Statehood and the involvement of the B&O Railroad in its creation, design, and use of armored railroad cars, the Confederate raid against the B&O Railroad in Western Maryland known as the Jones-Imboden Raid and one of the war's largest movements of troops to the battlefront via railroad from Virginia to the Battle of Chattanooga. B&O Railroad executives worked directly with the Lincoln Administration in organizing and managing this rail movement never before attempted in such a short period of time. Significant artifacts and hand-made models, all on loan from private collections, are included in this year's edition of the exhibit and help bring human interest stories to life.
 
Blue Star Museums

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,500 museums across America. The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Ellicott City Station, Mount Clare Museum House are proud to partner with Blue Star Museums and offer active military personnel and up to five family members free admission to the museum from Tuesday, May 29 through Sunday, September 1, 2013. The Geneva Convention common access card (CAC) a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card are required to receive free admittance.
