STEAM into Spring Break at the B&O! While area students are on their spring break, the B&O is thrilled to offer two weeks of enriching activities, designed to promote continued learning and engagement with science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Activities include kid-oriented tours & workshops, as well as our regularly scheduled Toddler Time programs. Learn more about each of our Spring Break Programs and register for workshops below.

Tours and Toddler Time are free with admission.  
Workshops: $6 with admission, pre-registration required.*
*$6 fee applies only to workshop participants. Parents/guardians of participants need only purchase regular Museum admission.

Storytelling by Design Workshop – Monday, Mar. 29 at 1:30 PM

Using clay discs and paint, participants will create a clay china pattern inspired by Olive Dennis’ Centenary China Pattern.  While the clay patterns dry, participants will be able to tour the China Car and hear about the contributions Olive Dennis made to the B&O Railroad. Participants will be able to take their clay pattern designs home with them at the end of the workshop. Register now!

MAGLEV TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP – wedneSDAYS, Mar. 31 AT 2 PM & Apr. 7 AT 11 am

Participants will explore the science behind magnets and learn how some trains use magnetism to propel themselves down a track. Then participants will build their own train car and using magnetic levitation they will see how it moves down a track. Participants will be able to take their maglev train cars home with them. rAILROADING WITH LEGO WORKSHOP – Fridays, Apr. 2 AT 11 aM & Apr. 9 AT 1 PM

Participants will learn about different types of equipment used by the railroad and have a chance to build and test out some of that equipment using LEGOs. Register now!


In this workshop, children will work beside our in-house model train layout builder, Jimmy Ullrich, to learn the steps to build a model train layout in their own home.  Discover how to complete the electrical wiring, set up the trains and design the rest of the village in this 1.5 hour workshop.
