Over the past three years, the B&O Railroad Museum's Restoration Staff have been working diligently restoring "America's Favorite Locomotive", B&O Railroad #25 "William Mason", back to its original 1856 livery. On Saturday, September 16, 2017 this beloved locomotive returns back home to the B&O's historic 1884 Roundhouse for all of us to see and admire.

The first 250 B&O members and visitors who arrive for this festive celebration will receive a free commemorative postcard of the #25 "William Mason" locomotive.

The day's celebration will also offer B&O members, fans, and visitors special programming and tours highlighting the locomotive's history, celebrity, and restoration process. See archival artifacts and images of the Mason not usually on public display and listen to the discoveries made during the restoration process.

The restoration of B&O #25 represents one of the highest achievements of the Museum's restoration program. In order to ensure that we have the resources to continue this level of quality work, we will launch a small fundraising campaign on September 16 to support our locomotive and car conservation and restoration projects.

Own a piece of history!

• For a donation of $161 (the age of B&O #25) or more on September 16 at the B&O Railroad Museum, you will receive a brass holiday ornament featuring the B&O #25.

• Our Master Metal conservator George Harwood cast two additional bronze William Mason locomotive name plates while re-creating the pair that was lost from B&O #25 ages ago. These are exacting replicas designed and cast from Civil War period photographs of other Mason locomotives and will be available via two charity auctions with a minimum bid of $10,000.

The first silent auction for one of the name plates begins September 16 and runs through December 31, 2017.  Please download this pdf to place your bid. Bids are accepted on-site and online, where a running tally with the most recent bid will be posted.

The second online charity auction for the other name plate will be announced closer to the locomotive's debut. Please check back for details.
• Gifts and souvenirs of #25 the William Mason will be available for purchase on-site and on-line via the Museum Store.

Please come to see the unveiling of this magnificent Civil War locomotive and support our preservation mission!
