Group discounts are offered for reserved groups of 20 or more and must be made at least two weeks in advance of your group's scheduled visit. Seasonal train rides may be included with the following tours at no additional cost. Please add 20 minutes to your group’s duration time for the train ride.

Train Ride Schedule: April through December and weekends in January
Wednesday-Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Saturday at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., & 3:00 p.m.
Sunday at 12:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.
Train rides are subject to change or cancellation without notice and are not guaranteed with your visit.

B & O Roundhouse

TOUR 1: EXPLORE ALONE

Bring your group of 20 or more to the museum and let them explore all of the history the Birthplace of American Railroading has to offer. Daily educational programs are available. This self exploration tour takes approximately 1.5 hours. Reservations are accepted Monday – Saturday between 10am – 2:30pm and Sunday between 11am – 2pm.
Youth groups- $8.00 per person / Senior groups- $10.00 per person
Adult groups-$12.00 per person

TOUR 2: TRAVELING THROUGH TIME

This 30 minute guided tour focuses on the evolution of passenger service from its bumpy infancy to the golden age of passenger service through legendary B&O trains. Duration of tour is 30 minutes and accommodates a group of 20 – 50 participants. Reservations accepted between 10am – 2:30pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays.
Recommended for youths of 12 years or older - $10.00 per person
Adult / Senior groups - $14.00 per person

TOUR 3: TECHNOLOGY CHANGES

This guided tour will take you from the earliest days of “simple” steam locomotives through all the innovations that allowed trains and their cargo to go faster and more efficiently, and stop more safely. It includes the examination of the technology that improved the way trains were built and repaired and why the caboose disappeared. Duration of tour is about one hour and accommodates a group of 20 – 50 participants. Reservations accepted between 10am – 2pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays.
Youth groups of 12 years or older - $11.00 per person
Adult / Senior groups - $15..00 per person

TOUR 4: FIRST, LAST, BEST, & ONLY OF ITS KIND

This guided and comprehensive tour takes your group on a nostalgic journey through the magnificent Roundhouse, North Car Shop, & Mt. Clare Station. As your group steps back in time, they will learn how the B&O Railroad spawned an industrial revolution, survived civil and world wars and brought about a Museum collection that contains some of the first, last, best, and only pieces of its kind. Duration of this tour is about 2 hours and accommodates a group of 20 - 50 participants. Reservations accepted between 10am – 1pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays)
Youth groups - $14.00 per person Adult / Senior groups - $17.00 per person

TOUR 5: B & O LUNCH BUFFET & TOUR

Enjoy a hot lunch buffet at the B&O. Choose one of the following menu selections-lasagna, meat loaf, chicken tenders, or ruben sandwiches. Then take a guided tour of the Roundhouse, Mt. Clare Station, and Exhibit Galleries. Learn how standard time evolved from the railroad, see rare china that was used in 19th century dining cars, and marvel at the miniature railroad cars and locomotives of the Smithsonian’s Model Railroad Collection. Duration of this tour is about 2 hours including lunch and accommodates 20 – 50 participants. Reservations are accepted between 10am – 2pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
All inclusive - $37.00 per person
Add a hot lunch buffet to TOURS 1, 2, 3, 4 for an additional $25.00 per person.

Group reservations accepted and reserved with a non-refundable $50 deposit. Full payment required 10 days prior to scheduled visit. All guided tours are based on availability. All groups are required to wear group specific identification badges or clothing. All youth groups are required to have one adult chaperone for every eight children.

For your convenience Railroad Grab bags for children may be purchased in advance at $3.95 each. Museum store offers a variety of gifts, souvenirs, books, and educational items for all ages.
