Material Culture Workshop: Textiles (B&O Railroad Museum Education Station)
Saturday, March 25 

9:00am - 11:00am

Learn about fibers and fabric of the 18th century during this hands-on textile workshop! We will focus on 2 dimensional objects and the fibers that make them up. After a brief lecture with visuals, participants will have the opportunity to complete curatorial activities, such as examining fibers under a microscope and analyzing an antique from collections. All participants will receive a coupon to tour Mount Clare Museum House on another day. Prepaid reservations required for ages 18+. Event admission: $18 adults, $10 students, $5 Members. Learn about the Underground Railroad and how enslaved persons escaped using the stars as their guides. During this interactive program, participants will read the book Follow the Drinking Gourd, develop our own secret code, and make a constellation scope to take home. Independence Day Picnic

Colonial Craftsman Series: Brickmaking

Enjoy a last huzzah before school begins. Visitors have the opportunity to use period tools and techniques to make clay bricks by hand and experience some of the working conditions endured by colonial servants, slaves, and craftsmen. Mount Clare in Mourning

Mount Clare focuses on death in early America. Tour include a discussion of beliefs and rituals surrounding death, dying, and mourning with a recreated 18th century funeral scene.

Death & Mourning Rituals
Saturday, October 7

11am - 4pm

Mount Clare is redecorated, depicting an 18th century funeral scene. Take a special tour highlighting death and mourning rituals in 18th & early 19th century America, including English, Irish, and African rituals and beliefs. Tours begin on the hour. Space is limited to 25 visitors - first come, first served.

Halloween
Saturday, October 28

11am - 4pm

This family friendly event allows children and kid-at-heart adults to dress in costume for self-guided tours of Mount Clare. For an additional cost, children can partake in a Halloween themed archeological activity where they learn about historic archeology, particularly at Mount Clare. Tour $5, Archeology Activity $5
