What the B&O Railroad Museum will highlight during this special railroad weekend:

  • • Behind-the-scenes tour of the B&O Slumbercoach "Dreamland", one of two sleeping coaches built exclusively for the B&O Railroad in 1958 by BUDD Company. Visitors tour the inside of this sleeper to see how 40 passengers traveled and slept on this rare piece of railroad equipment for almost four decades. This railroad car has not been open for viewing in 20 years.

  •
  • • White glove tours of the #908 "John T. Collinson" office car. This newly restored rail car was built in 1917 by the Chicago & Alton Railroad and renamed in honor of John T. Collinson, a fourth generation railroader, and top executive with the Chessie System, Seaboard Systems and CSX. Visitors see first-hand how railroad executives worked and lived on this rare heavyweight office car.
  •
  • • Get a look inside the #1200 Cryo Car recently donated to the museum. See this impressive car which is designed to transport frozen foods and items across the country. This inside of the car will soon house an exhibit on the history of refrigerated cars used on the railroads.

  • • Cab tours of the Pere Marquette #11 Diesel Electric Locomotive (General Motors, Electro-Motive Division SW-1 switcher), built in 1942 and in use during World War II.

  • Train Rides along the first commercial mile of railroad right-of-way laid in America, departing at 11am, 1pm, & 2:30pm on Saturday, March 3 and at 12pm & 2pm on Sunday, March 4.

  • • Train Rides to Tour B&O Restoration Shop on Saturday, March 3 at 11:30am & 1:30pm and Sunday, March 4 at 12:30pm. Visitors board the B&O Mile One Express train that will stop at the B&O Restoration Shop for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum's state-of-the-art restoration facility constructed in 2005 to restore and maintain its locomotive and rolling stock collection. Visitors see up-close the shop including the machinery used in the restoration process and a peek at some of the "Iron Horses" currently being maintained and restored.
