Dear Friends of the B&O Railroad Museum:

In 1998, the Museum received a grant to rehabilitate the North Car Shop. The project was broken out into two phases and was originally funded by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991, which is known today as TEA-21. Phase One of this building project entailed a restoration of the building's roof and trusses and was completed in 2000.

During the Museum's extended period of closure after the 2003 Roundhouse roof collapse, officials decided to proceed with the North Car Shop's Phase Two. Occurring simultaneously with the restoration of the Roundhouse, this project will be completed by late August 2004. Phase Two restoration involves all the exterior faces of the North Car Shop and includes cornice and gable repairs and painting, masonry low pressure power wash and selective re-pointing, removal of old exterior conduit, and the replacement of the Track 15 door. Each of the building's window frames, sashes, and sills will be restored, repaired, or replaced and painted as required. The two ocular windows on the east and west face of the building will be replaced with replicas of the original design. In addition, the original lettering across the top of the north face ("The Baltimore & Ohio Rail Road Company Passenger Car Works") as well as the track numbers on the west face will be replicated.

Thank you for your continued support as The B&O Railroad Museum remains closed until further notice.
