Dear Friends of the B&O Railroad Museum:
The Museum is entering the final phases of its Roundhouse reconstruction. Since the last report on the building progress (see Museum Restoration Report May 7, 2004), the construction team has installed the lantern and lower windows, painted the exterior using historic colors, and laid the remaining slate. The lantern windows are mechanically operated from ground level and can be opened to vent the building.
Inside the Roundhouse, the construction team has dismantled the scaffolding superstructure and has begun painting the walls. Restoration of the turntable and its operating mechanism is scheduled to commence in the next few weeks.
The restoration of the historic North Car Shop is also progressing. In the last week, painters have begun to apply the lettering ("The Baltimore & Ohio Rail Road Company Passenger Car Works") to the north face of the Car Shop.
Thank you for your continued support as The B&O Railroad Museum remains closed until further notice.
