The B&O Railroad Museum is proud to join the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland as a Partner Program in offering badge and patch programs at the museum throughout the year. Designed for all levels of Girl Scouts our programs will tie into the science, technology and history of the B&O Railroad. Choose one of the below scheduled programs or plan private program for your troop.

Girls Scouts of Central Maryland Partner Program 

Our Girl Scout programs are designed to help every girl discover their passions, strengthen their confidence and see themselves in the B&O Railroad.  Through hands-on, varied programs we will explore topics of science, technology and history throughout the year.

Thanksgiving Feast from the Farm to Your Table  

Saturday, November 6, 2021 10 AM-12 PM 
Plan out a Thanksgiving meal with all your favorite dishes! Scouts will discover how the food we eat gets to our homes by tracing ingredients back to their origins. Participants will use the knowledge they gained about transportation of goods to make a traditional Thanksgiving side dish to enjoy before embarking on a ride on the Mile One Express. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.   

Cost: $20 per scout; $12 per adult. Troop leaders are free.  
Recommended Grade Levels: Daisies, Brownies and Juniors and Cadettes 


Race into the Future! Workshop  

Tuesday, December 28, 2021 10 AM-12 PM  
Join us as we look towards the future of rail! Scouts will create their own magnetic levitation devices and see how a MagLev train works. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.   

Cost: $20 per scout; $12 per adult. Troop leaders are free.  
Recommended Grade Levels: Daisies, Brownies and Juniors and Cadettes 


Celebrating Diversity on the Railroad 

Saturday, January 22, 2022 10 AM-12 PM  
Join us for a morning of cultural appreciation as scouts learn about the history of various immigrant groups who helped build the railroad in the United States. This celebration of diversity and inclusion concludes with a ride on the Mile One Express. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.   

Cost: $20 per scout; $12 per adult. Troop leaders are free.

African American Impact on the Railroad 

Sunday, February 6, 2022 1 PM-3 PM  
Join us as we reflect on the legacy of African Americans throughout the history of railroading. Scouts will have the opportunity to explore the connection that the B&O Railroad has to the Underground Railroad and other monuments of African American history throughout our campus. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.   

Cost: $20 per scout; $12 per adult. Troop leaders are free.  
Recommended Grade Levels: Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors 


Women’s History on the Railroad 

Saturday, March 19, 2022 10 AM-12 PM 
Join us for an event you won’t forget! Scouts will explore the role of women in the history of the B&O Railroad by recreating the Fair of the Iron Horse – a spectacular celebration of the 100th anniversary of rail. Explore the pieces we have on display from the Fair of the Iron Horse and learn about the impact women had on this celebration. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.

Environmental Impacts of the Railroad Workshop 

 Wednesday, April 13, 2022 10 AM-12 PM  
Join us for a day of environmental learning and action! Scouts will learn about the different causes of climate change and create their own plans as an advocate for sustainability to present to a local official. This event concludes with a ride on the Mile One Express. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.

Entertaining on the Railroad 

Sunday, May 1, 2022 11:30 AM-1:30 PM  
Join us for a mid-day tea where scouts can decorate their own railroad china fit to be served in a railway dining car. Refreshments will be served before a ride on the Mile One Express. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.

Maryland History Adventure! 

 Saturday, June 11, 2022 10 AM-12 PM
Join us for a scavenger hunt all about Maryland History! Scouts will explore our campus while learning interesting facts about the state of Maryland. This adventure will end with a ride on the Mile One Express. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.   

Cost: $20 per scout; $12 per adult. Troop leaders are free.

I love that the museum is what remains of the old train yard and the number and variety of train cars is remarkable.
