B&O Unlocked: B&O No. B-29 Jordan Spreader

The B&O No. B-29 is a “Jordan Spreader,” a type of maintenance car designed to spread ballast that is considered by some to be the earliest type of railroad maintenance equipment. Today, Jordan Spreaders are primarily used for snowplow services.

The B&O No. B-29 was built in 1951 by the O. F. Jordan company and has seen many numbers and paint schemes through the B&O, Chessie System, and CSX eras. Today, the Jordan Spreader has been numbered B-29 and cosmetically restored to match its original appearance.

Tours:

Tours will be available between 10 AM – 4 PM.

Please note: This tour requires participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven pathways. A virtual tour will be available on-site via QR code. Docent Tour Guides stationed near the car can answer any additional questions about the history and physical description of the rail car. Small children must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.
