Labor Day at the B&O

Celebrate those who work hard all year long with the B&O!

B&O workers laid the very rails which sparked the spread of industry across the United States and changed the nation forever. To honor these railroaders and the many working-class heroes that we all depend on today, we’re hosting special programming including Mile One Express Train Rides along the nation’s first mile of commercial railroad, and our Working on the Railroad Tour—a guided tour about those who labored on the railroad, supporting the expansion, upkeep, and innovation of riding on the rails.

Note: Train rides are an additional cost; they range from $4-$12

“Working on the Railroad: The B&O and the Labor Movement” Public Tour

This tour will explore the unique history of working for the railroad in America and the evolution of worker rights from the 19th to the 20th centuries, with particular focus on the employees of the B&O Railroad.

Mile One Express Train Ride

An essential part of the B&O Railroad Museum experience, our Mile One Express Train Ride gives the visitors the chance to take a train ride along the nation’s first mile of commercial railroad! Tickets for the train ride can be purchased on-site here at the Museum.
