B&O Unlocked: PEPCO No. 43 | B&O Railroad Museum

This May, prepare to step inside a rare gem of rail history: the PEPCO No. 43!

This exceptional locomotive isn’t your ordinary steam engine—it’s a unique “fireless” steam locomotive crafted by Heisler Works in Erie, PA.

PEPCO No. 43 stands as one of only 50 of its kind ever built, defying convention with its innovative design. After its tenure, a new chapter unfolded for this marvel. Restored to its former glory in 1979 by PEPCO, it found a new home at the Smithsonian Institution before being graciously donated to the B&O Museum in 2009.

Join us this May for an exclusive glimpse into the legacy of the PEPCO No. 43. Witness firsthand this rare and remarkable piece of locomotive history that pushed innovation in rail travel!

This was such an awesome experience! The trains inside were phenomenal and all very well kept. But we went ahead and did the train ride also and that was just icing on the cake! This is a great experience for kids, teens, and adults like myself.
