B&O Unlocked: Pere Marquette No. 11 Diesel Switcher - National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation

This September, we welcome you inside the cab of the Pere Marquette No. 11 Diesel Switcher — a true testament to resilience and restoration.

The PM No. 11 stands as a diesel switcher, purpose-built to navigate rail yards and industrial parks across short distances. Unlike the hefty steam locomotives of its time, this switcher offered enhanced visibility, reversibility, and maneuverability, revolutionizing rail operations.

But the story of the PM No. 11 isn’t just about its functionalities. Severely damaged during the 2003 Roundhouse roof collapse at the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation, the locomotive underwent a restoration in 2004, rising from the ashes to reclaim its former glory.

Join us this September as we celebrate the Pere Marquette No. 11 Diesel Switcher. Experience firsthand the incredible journey of restoration and witness the capabilities that made this switcher a game-changer in rail yard operations!
