We love when groups choose the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation as their volunteer service site!
There is strength in numbers, and we could always use a few extra hands.
Typically, group projects involve:
- Landscaping
- Large clean-up projects (trash clean-up along the tracks, or deep cleaning our passenger train, for example)
- Setting up for big events like our annual Day Out with Thomas™ or THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride
- Moving items in our archive collection to an updated storage area
- Distributing flyers around the city
We make sure that all our volunteer groups get a chance to explore the museum, hop on a train ride (when available), and leave with a pair of tickets as a thank you. Group service projects are often subject to the weather. In the event of rain, it may be necessary to reschedule depending on the project planned.

“The Underground Railroad exhibit particularly made an impression. You can learn about the enslaved people who passed through Mount Clare Station as their last stop before reaching the northern states. Sobering and inspiring stories.”
