Rail Rescue and Response Showcase Features Live Rescue Demonstrations, Hero Tributes, and Cool Trucks!

BALTIMORE, MD – The B&O Railroad Museum is proud to present the Rail Rescue and Response Showcase, an immersive, family-friendly event that honors first responders, promotes public safety, and educates the community on emergency preparedness. Taking place from 10 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 13, this dynamic event features live rescue demonstrations, hands-on safety exhibits, and a moving remembrance ceremony.

“This event brings the community together in the most meaningful way—by celebrating the bravery of our first responders while providing education that could save lives, plus it is fun!,” said Kris Hoellen, Executive Director of the B&O Railroad Museum.

The day’s centerpiece is a Live Impact & Rescue Demonstration, where attendees will witness a real-time collision between an automobile and a train, followed by a life-saving extraction by fire and rescue crews, all narrated by Operation Lifesaver. This gripping simulation offers an unforgettable look into the speed and precision required of first responders and is a visual reminder to practice railroad safety. Guests will take either an 11 am or 1:30 pm train ride to the Museum’s Restoration Shop to witness the demonstration.

In addition to the live demonstration, the event also features a First Responder Showcase, where guests can meet and interact with the heroes who serve our community. From ladder fire trucks and ambulances to bomb squads and drones to patrol vehicles, this hands-on area allows attendees to explore emergency equipment and speak directly with firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and other frontline professionals.

Educational stations throughout the day will include CPR and First Aid demos, fire prevention tips, and disaster readiness guidance—equipping attendees of all ages with practical, life-saving knowledge. Young visitors can participate in a Safety Scavenger Hunt, designed to teach safety awareness in a fun and engaging way.

At 12:30 PM, the event pauses for a solemn Remembrance Ceremony, featuring a Color Guard presentation in honor of fallen first responders and those who continue to serve.

Join us for a day of impact, inspiration, and invaluable safety education at the Rail Rescue and Response Showcase. Tickets are $27-$30; First Responders, children, and Museum Members are free.

The B&O Railroad Museum is located at 901 W. Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. The Museum offers free parking onsite.
