The B&O Railroad Museum is proud to join the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland as a Partner Program in offering badge and patch programs at the museum throughout the year. Designed for all levels of Girl Scouts, our programs will tie into the science, technology and history of the B&O Railroad. Choose one of the below scheduled programs or plan private program for your troop.

Girls Scouts of Central Maryland Partner Program 

Our Girl Scout programs are designed to help every girl discover their passions, strengthen their confidence and see themselves in the B&O Railroad. 

As a Girl Scouts Council Sponsored Go Partner, we’ll be offering monthly themed programs for the 2023-2024 season for Girl Scouts of select levels, depending on the program. We have a bunch of activities on the agenda and, of course, train rides on the schedule. Bring the whole Troop or come individually to meet fellow Girl Scouts from other troops! 

Girl Scouts: $30
Adults: $20

Haunted History at the B&O Fun Patch Program

Friday, October 20, 2023 @ 10 AM – 12 PM 
Get ready for Halloween with us as we explore the haunted lore of the B&O Railroad. In this program Scouts will tour the museum as we hear stories of spooky encounters from here on our campus. Then we will have some fun as we decorate pumpkins to look like workers on the railroad before we end the program with a ride on the Mile One Express. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration. Scouts will receive a fun patch for their participation in this program.

Thanksgiving Celebration at the B&O Fun Patch Program

Wednesday, November 22, 2023 @ 10 AM – 12 PM 
In this program, Scouts will tour the museum to learn about the B&O Railroad’s role in transporting your favorite Thanksgiving foods. Then, we will explore how the railroad is part of the busiest travel days of the year before ending our program by making a fun Thanksgiving treat to enjoy. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration. Each Scout will receive a fun patch for participation in the program.

Simple Machines on the Railroad Fun Patch Program

Friday, December 29, 2023 @ 10 AM – 12 PM 
Scouts will learn the basics of engineering by working hands-on with simple machines. From the screw to the inclined plane and pulley, how many simple machines can you spot on our campus? Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration. Each scout will receive a fun patch for participation in the program.

Women’s History Month: Women in Railroading Program

Wednesday, March 27, 2024 @ 10 AM – 12 PM 
Scouts will explore the history of women working on the railroad from the B&O’s first female engineer to how the Rosie the Riveter campaign impacted the railroad. In this program we will tour the museum to hear about real women who worked for the B&O Railroad before walking in their footsteps and recreating their biggest accomplishments.

Mechanical Engineering 2: Car

Saturday, May 18, 2024 @ 10 AM – 12 PM 
Scouts will explore the technology of the railroad with a tour of the museum. Then we will use the engineering process to build, test and revise a car design. Using different materials, we will explore which method creates the fastest car! This program will include a ride down the first mile of commercial railroad track in the United States aboard the Mile One Express Train Ride. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration.

Outdoor Art

Saturday, June 8, 2024 @ 10 AM – 12 PM 
Calling all art loving Scouts! Join us as we explore different forms of art while outdoors! From sketching real locomotives to getting messy with outdoor art activities, we are sure to find something your Scout is interested in! This program will include a ride down the first mile of commercial railroad track in the United States aboard the Mile One Express Train Ride. Admission to the B&O Railroad Museum is included with registration. Scouts will receive the Outdoor Art badge for this program.
