Formerly known as First Responders Day, you are invited to join us for an unforgettable day dedicated to rail safety and honoring the courageous men and women who keep our communities safe. This interactive community event for all ages includes real-world rescue scenarios and a powerful remembrance ceremony.

Witness Live Rail Safety in Action! 

Live Impact & Rescue Demonstration: Witness a controlled collision between an automobile and a locomotive, followed by a live rescue demonstration by fire and rescue crews. See firsthand how responders save lives in the most dangerous scenarios. 

  • The demonstration will take place at our Restoration Shop and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Guests can choose between an 11 am and 2 pm train ride for the demonstration. There are no restrooms at the collision site. 

Meet Your Everyday Heroes 

First Responder Showcase: Get up close with a variety of emergency vehicles, including powerful fire trucks, ambulances, patrol cars, and more. Chat directly with the dedicated police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and other first responders who protect our community every day.

  • Disaster Readiness Tips: Get prepared for unexpected events with expert advice on emergency planning. 
  • Safety Scavenger Hunt for Kids: Fun and educational activities for our youngest attendees to learn about safety. 

A Moment of Remembrance

Remembrance Ceremony with Color Guard at 12:30 PM: Join us for a Color Guard presentation honoring fallen first responders and the ongoing sacrifices made by those in uniform. 

Come experience the action, honor our heroes, and learn lifesaving skills at the Rail Rescue and Response Showcase.

B&O Members: FREE
First Responders: FREE
Adult: $30 – admission, train ride & event 
Senior: $27 – admission, train ride & event
Child (ages 2-12): FREE
$1 with SNAP/EBT cards (Museums4All pricing applies)
 

Register in advance to guarantee your train ride ticket! Please select either the 11 am or 2 pm train ride departure time when purchasing your tickets. Tickets include museum admission, the train ride, and event admission. Museum admission without train ride to collision site also available on-site.

First Responders with ID receive FREE admission & train ride! Please register through the ticket link above to claim your free ticket.

Please Note: Hard-soled, closed toe shoes are REQUIRED for those taking the train to the collision site. You will be away from the main museum campus for about 1.5 hours; there are no restrooms or food/drink available.

Wonderful rail museum with many historic engines, passenger cars, mail car, troop transport, and more. Several models layouts including the Smithsonian collection of models which was amazing. Wonderful presentation on the underground railroad. We will visit again.
