B&O Unlocked: Domino No. 50 "Sweet Toot" Switcher

The B&O Railroad Museum is offering a sweet treat this November!

Step inside the Domino No. 50, affectionately known as the “Sweet Toot” Switcher — a charming locomotive with a delicious history.

The “Sweet Toot” was the powerhouse responsible for maneuvering freight cars loaded with liquid and granulated sugar within the confines of the iconic Domino Sugar refinery in Baltimore. As the heartbeat of the refinery’s operations, this switcher played a vital role in ensuring the smooth transportation of one of life’s sweetest commodities.

Explore its significance in the operation of the sugar refinery and witness firsthand how this locomotive kept the wheels turning in the production of everyone’s favorite sugar. Don’t miss this opportunity to savor the unique history of the “Sweet Toot.”

Tours:

Tours will be available between 10 AM – 4 PM.

Please note: This tour requires participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven pathways. A virtual tour will be available on-site via QR code. Docent Tour Guides stationed near the locomotive can answer any additional questions about the history and physical description of the locomotive. Small children must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.
