The B&O No. 1700 Iron Boxcar, like its sister No. 17001, was built to carry flour and gunpowder. The Civil War-era boxcar sustained heavy damage during the Roundhouse roof collapse on Feb. 17, 2003.

Historic Site

The B&O Railroad Museum’s 40-acre historic site, called Mt. Clare, is a National Historic Landmark and is the original site where the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad founded America’s first commercial railroad in 1827.

I love that the museum is what remains of the old train yard and the number and variety of train cars is remarkable.
